Very nice pretty good for you recipe. I used still ingredients but changed up the prep order to make it easier for me to put together on a busy mean solar day. I diced upwards the onion, carrots (used a lot more carrots) celery. Cooked the beefiness, added the onions, carrots and celery and cooked that a chip, added the broth & bouillon cube, tomato sauce - brought to a depression simmer - added the potatoes and turned the estrus down to low and allow simmer - just before serving I added the cabbage and let simmer while the rolls broiled. No added salt was needed. Perfectly like shooting fish in a barrel weeknight repast. This can all be done using the crockpot - first of the stove and terminate the simmer and cabbage in the crockpot.

Exactly what I was looking for! It tasted exactly like what I grew up on at my Grandma's house. Fantabulous flavor - definitely a comfort nutrient for me!

I absolutely loved this recipe just I did brand some changes. Instead of the tomato sauce I used ane 14.v oz can of diced tomatoes with the juice and a minor can of tomato paste. I also added a can of drained corn and a gutted and diced jalapeno to add a little kick. I added these along with the rest of the veggies and let it simmer for 70 minutes. Both myself and my partner absolutely loved information technology!
12/13/2013
Excellent stew! I make this in the crock pot. Just brownish the meat, put information technology in the crock pot and encompass with the residual of the ingredients. Cook on low all day and it comes out cracking! Another great excuse to eat cabbage. Great equally-is, but I've likewise added corn, peas, cauliflower, etc.
11/03/2013
My wife can brand a great stew and i accept been trying to make a recipe to beat hers and have great flavor with tender meat and done vegies that didnt taste like some chemical, well this recipe beat hers past far. I didn't change anything, the beefiness was real tender, the broth had slap-up flavor and the cabbage fabricated this stew even ameliorate. You take to attempt this recipe, you will make this once again. My wife really liked this stew and admitted it that it taste better and then hers.
12/28/2012
I fabricated this recipe in my pressure level cooker and it cut the cooking fourth dimension down to about 35 minutes. Information technology turned out perfectly. I browned the beef in a trivial oil for almost 12 minutes, force per unit area cooked the meat, broth, onion, and spices for xv minutes, added the veggies and force per unit area cooked for 7 minutes, added the tomato sauce and pressure level cooked for i infinitesimal. Fabulous!
11/27/2012
Prepared this recipe exactly like the original with no changes. It turned out perfect! Very tasty the first solar day and the leftovers were even better the second twenty-four hour period. Yous will non be disappointed. Great recipe, and I'll definitely make this one again.

ok, is it fair to give this 5 stars when I didn't follow the recipe? I just had to because this soup is so delicious and soooooo good for united states of america!!! I used 1 pound of beefiness, 15 oz tomato sauce, 6 cups of beef broth, 4 large handful of coleslaw mix (Sam'southward social club), 2 large carrots, i onion, one c each of frozen green beans and corn and salt and pepper...and i tsp of sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes. OH WOW! simple, delicious, hearty, healthy goodness in a bowl. Exactly what I want my family to eat to nourish themselves!!! the twenty minutes of simmering are almost upwardly and the troops are starting to circumvolve!!! I've taste-tested a little bowl already and I tin can hardly wait for more!!!!
07/21/2013
Very skillful and easy to gear up. I followed the recipe to the T, just added cayenne pepper at the terminate for extra boot.
01/29/2015
How good can beef and cabbage gustatory modality? Honestly? Well let me tell ya, this recipe made a laic out of me! Obviously I was skeptical simply I followed the directions to a tee and had some faith-information technology'south rated 5 stars after all. Now I know why. Won't brand any changes when I brand this over again. Great recipe. Thanks Paul
10/27/2014
Fantastic season. The just changes I made was I did not measure out the cabbage I only added the whole caput, why measure out if you love cabbage. I likewise added roasted garlic. I always have some in my fridge and it makes a great addition to any dish.
04/xiii/2013
something so piece of cake my fellow went crazy over... every bite literally said wow... i don't get it... it was similar the easiest recipe... time consuming but easy and he was totally having his moment with this repast.. and i spend so much fourth dimension on exotic recipes... geez i'll make this 1 again. I left out the tomato sauce because i didnt wanna keep digging in the cupboard

As someone who doesn't eat plenty vegetables, I was looking for a recipe to get more veggies into my diet. This actually did the trick! My fellow loves it. We follow the directions generally as listed (sometimes leaving out the onion, considering I don't like them), and it always turns out not bad. The cabbage is the star of the dish. We love to add TONS of cabbage to this recipe, especially considering the cabbage shrinks equally it cooks. I took away one star though because the tomato sauce flavour is very overpowering. Although my boyfriend loves the tomato flavor, I do not, and we accept started using half a can to reduce the strong tomato flavor a bit. It's still delicious, merely with the total can of tomato sauce, all I could taste was tomato plant, and I actually wanted to enjoy the other flavors in the dish. Half a can works for us. It keeps the tomato flavour in the dish without overpowering the other flavors at work. Overall, groovy recipe! Really enjoyed it, and information technology is now one of our "regulars"! :)
12/04/2013
Very disappointed with this recipe. Our sometime standby swiss steak in the crockpot is much better than this. I won't be making this again.
01/21/2014
I included a 1/2c of marsala wine and a few pinches of herbs and it came out with a nice flavor and very rich sauce. Very good!
01/17/2013
Simple and hearty recipe. Nosotros initially fabricated the soup exactly as instructed but concluded up doubling up on the broth halfway through. We volition definitely make again. Thanks so much for the recipe!
06/04/2016
I made it exactly except used napa cabbage and perchance an extra bullion cube...information technology was Keen!!!! I am looking at the critical review past Peggy and shakin my head!!! Never arrive once more??? Peradventure y'all didn't brand it right the showtime time....geeeez....Thank you for the recipe....PEACE
10/28/2014
I've never made a successful stew before simply this one turned out great.... The primal was to cook the stew meat long and slow to become information technology tender and to throw your vegetables in during the last cooking hour which for me was at the one and half hour mark. I did make some adjustments simply zero extreme. I used 2 and half pounds stew meat. I used meat tenderizer on the stew while I browned the meat. I added viii red potatoes since they were already on paw. Added corn. 4 cups of beef unsalted broth. A browning amanuensis. And also added a half loving cup of saccharide to eliminate the acids from the red sauce since I'm not a fan of mixing red and brown gravys in the offset identify. My movie of finished product is in the gallery...
01/10/2015
I have made beefiness stew and it is proficient ,but this recipe was fifty-fifty better, more nutritious, and lower in calories. I put everything into a pressure cooker and cooked information technology about an 60 minutes. Information technology was delicious.
03/02/2014
I was afraid it'd exist bland so added a healthy tablespoon of diced garlic (from a jar) during the meat/onion stage. Besides added a dash of cayenne pepper for a little kick. I needed two-3 extra cups of broth after adding the vegetables to give it a nice consistency. We like our stew thick and hearty simply need enough liquid to dip slices of crusty baguette. Instead of shredding the cabbage, I sliced it thin virtually ane/four inch thick and kept the pieces 1 inch long. Slap-up recipe! Other additions/swaps that might not make a deviation but you might like, added a can of corn, used 3 oz of tomato paste, diced tomato plant's instead of sauce. Nosotros didn't take celery. I like information technology but didn't miss it. I added 2 tablespoons of flour mixed with i/2 cup water at the very end to give information technology the stew consistency I'm used to my Grandma making.
11/eleven/2013
Great get-go Recipe I used Beefiness stock for added flavour and put more veggies in and then it called for. Information technology did take longer for the veggies to tenderize but I did allow time for that. It had great flavor and the extra cooking fourth dimension but tenderized the meat more than.
10/28/2014
Offset off, I followed the recipe exactly except for draining the grease considering there seemed to be very piffling. It was simply by and large moisture from the meat. Now I will tell you lot that I was very doubtful of this recipe most of the time while it was cooking, through all phases. I'thousand a sampler and I kept dipping my spoon in and thinking that I was going to have to help it a lot to make it edible. I now have the tomato sauce in and still it's only blah. However, subsequently virtually 20 minutes, the flavor came together and information technology was fantastic. However, it did require a fair bit of table salt. I'thou very happy that I didn't drain the juice at the beginning because the gravy ratio was but perfect equally information technology was and I retrieve it may take been too dry without it. Thanks for a great recipe!
01/20/2019
I used purple cabbage looked awful simply tasted great. I had to apply upwardly the leftover majestic cabbage from a different recipe. Lol!
01/12/2013
This is so good! Especially the next day after flavors meld. Yummy!
10/29/2014
Only change I made was to cook in my force per unit area cooker. Total recipe took about ane 60 minutes outset to finish. Really impressed the grand aunt and was so easy!!
01/05/2014
Fantabulous stew! I coated the meat with flour before browning it. That was the only change I made and anybody enjoyed their meal. I volition definitely adopt this recipe!
05/05/2013
This recipe is very proficient. I am non a celery person, so I left the celery out completely! I prepared information technology exactly as written minus celery and it is very yummy. It took longer than 45 minutes for my potatoes and carrots to get tender merely that merely helped my stew meat to get even softer! It was yummy!
09/14/2013
Excellent! I added garlic but otherwise left the recipe unchanged. Anybody in the family loves this.
10/08/2018
I increased the amount of liquids and veggies adding, turnip, mushrooms more carrots, celery, irish potato and onion as well as the stew meat. So and then good! My husband LOVED it!
12/18/2016
I made this recipe today and it was wonderful. My husband wants me to go far once again thus Fri to take to a family unit gathering.
01/23/2015
I dont know what I did wrong? After 1 hour there was nigh no liquid in the pot cooking the meat. I had the temp on 4, but I was using my wider three" pot with a lid. That is typically a simer with it. After 1 hour, I ended up having to add 5 cups of water. The meat was plenty tender, so I just added the vegetables at that point. I simmered it near 45 more minutes, calculation the tomato plant sauce at some betoken. My only change was calculation an extra carrot and using a 10oz bag of shredded cabbacabbage, which equaled 4 cups approximately. A flake of my potatoes did disolve, along with the cabbage, merely information technology thickened the soup anyhow. I like all the vegetables in this, but for me that is a long time sitting over a pot. I nigh halved all the cooking times and it was nevertheless enough. I rated this a 4 for flavor. Its really pretty practiced and much less salty tasting than other stews. Just a little as well fourth dimension consuming for a calendar week night meal for me.
10/11/2013
this was a good recipe
x/27/2014
Made information technology in pressure level cooker. Cooked meat first. Then added veggies at end. Whole affair done in thirty mins. Kiddos and Dad loved it.
ten/01/2016
DIDN'T CHANGE A THING. GREAT TWIST ON BEEF STEW!
12/03/2012
I made this stew equally submitted except I substituted a large container of mirepoix for the onion, carrot and celery. Easy, rich, delicious.
eleven/10/2013
This was delicious! Threw in some frozen corn while I was at it- yum! The whole family unit loved it. :)
12/16/2016
Very adept. Be careful not to add besides much lycopersicon esculentum sauce or it takes over the flavour.
09/08/2018
Very practiced!! Made per directions only added a fiddling more broth & was quite pleased.
03/29/2020
Didn't alter a affair. Perfect as is!
01/23/2014
Information technology was my start fourth dimension making this and it turned out great with a few minor changes. First, I used 6oz tomato paste instead of tomato plant sauce. Next, I added my ain spices and used bell peppers & mushrooms (I didn't have whatever celery). Lastly, I through in the love apple paste in the pot along with the potatoes, carrots, and everything else and cook information technology on medium/low temperature. Overall it took me about 2 and a one-half hours :~)
03/30/2018
This is probably the all-time beef stew I've fabricated in a long fourth dimension. My other half rave d well-nigh it and wished information technology made more. We were a scrap Leary of the cabbage, but I followed the recipe to the T and we were pleasantly surprised. It'south a keeper!
01/04/2015
Loved and did non brand any changes.

Very flavorful and hearty. Prepared in pressure cooker on high. Saute beefiness and onion, add together all ingredients except potatoes and cook for 20 minutes. Release force per unit area, add potatoes and melt some other twenty minutes. Used beef gravy instead of beefiness stock and pizza sauce instead of lycopersicon esculentum sauce to amp information technology upwardly! Served with warm homemade ciabatta staff of life....Fantastic flavor.
08/27/2018
I doubled the recipe. Turned out great. My wife said I could have drained more grease off on he browning the meat pace. Other wise tasted smashing. Ill do information technology once more.
10/09/2014
OMG! I simply finished a huge bowl of this and would have had more if I wasn't then stuffed! I've been cooking for the terminal four and a one-half decades and have made more my share of stews. I would have to say that this is the best darned pot of stew that I've ever made! At present, I tin't stand folks who rate a recipe 5 stars and then continue to tell you the myriad changes they made to the original. Submit your own recipe if your version is and so terrific. That being said, LOL, here are the minimal changes that I made. For health reasons I used reduced sodium goop and salt costless tomato sauce. I also establish a salt complimentary onion soup mix and used a tablespoon of that instead of the cube of common salt-laden bullion. I as well left out the celery as I didn't take whatsoever and caramelized the onions to add a bit more depth of flavor. Other than that, I followed the recipe as written. Oh, I added a bit of flour towards the end as I am not partial to thin stew. Even with the salt reduced to almost zippo, the taste was wonderful. All the flavors melded together without any ane ingredient outshining the others. All in all, a very like shooting fish in a barrel, flavorful stew for a dank or raw fall or winter nighttime. Thank y'all Paul for submitting.
05/16/2019
this was a very good recipe an easy to make
12/30/2019
Added fresh parsley and fifteen ounce of tomato sauce.
01/03/2019
Admittedly the Best stew recipe that I take fabricated. Information technology was a hit. I added more than vegetable, therefore adjusted the broth and bouillon. Otherwise made as stated.
04/23/2016
simply made and information technology was very expert. I added Sazon, Mrs. Nuance Garlic and Herb common salt gratuitous and sofrito (home fabricated from scratch). I didn't add salt cause Sazon has common salt.
07/06/2019
I made this stew and loved information technology. I just didn't add together tomato paste because it normally does have an overpowering taste. I but diced up ii tomatoes and included it. Overall information technology was good and what I felt like eating on this rainy Saturday evening.
01/16/2020
So adept! I followed the recipe exactly with the exception of the added salt at the end. Every bit at least one other reviewer noted, I was concerned I didn't have nearly enough liquid after adding the cabbage and veggies and cooking for xxx mins. More time and even more fourth dimension with the tomato paste saved things without me adding more liquid.
01/07/2014
Delicious! I doubled the broth and added garlic while the meat was simmering. Otherwise I kept everything else the same.
09/18/2014
Allow me join the ranks of the raving reviewers. I am usually not a stew lover but I had some height round steak I needed to use and establish this recipe. I made it exactly every bit written (with the exception of not peeling the potatoes) and it was delicious. But the correct consistency and the cabbage flavor is very subtle. I'll definitely exist making it again.
01/29/2019
I concord its a lilliputian time consuming But well worth it. Simply changes were one actress carrot and used almost 4 cups bone broth due to it simmering and cooking downwards. First-class!!!
x/13/2014
The perfect stew! We practise make changes co-ordinate to some of the reviews but I think it would exist great without them. We add together some crimson wine, utilise beef stock and no water. Add ii cloves of pressed garlic while browning the onions, before we add the meat back in. Will be a regular dinner during fall and winter.
05/05/2016
I made this last weekend and it was excellent, except I had leftover vegetables (I used my small crock pot instead of the large one). And then, I am looking for another recipe to use them on this weekend.
08/29/2017
Bully recipe I make as is, with no onion. I brand simple spanish rice to go with it. I place a spoon total of rice in a bowl and then add soup on superlative. Very succulent.
08/01/2013
Adept get-go, but triple or quadruple -- I usually make enough soup to freeze at least eight quarts for futurity use and to give some to my kids. I as well boil finely shredded onions and cabbage (virtually a whole head) -- they just nigh dissolve and give the soup body. This is the base for my vegetable beefiness soup -- add lots of veggies - attempt rutabega, acorn squash, turnips. I eat vegetables in my soup that I'd never eat on their own. I leave out the potatoes as they don't freeze well, but you tin can put one/two cup barley or tiny macaroni instead.
12/xviii/2017
Followed the recipe exactly. It was not bad on a common cold winter day!
09/18/2016
I dear it. I added more carrots celery and potatoes. But it is very tasty. More spicy than what I expect. Merely very hearty and succulent.

01/30/2020
This recipe it is excellent. I fabricated it for my family unit ane day and I turned around had to double the recipe considering it seem like it's simply wasn't plenty. The only slight change I made is when I browned the beef I added a touch of basil and a compression of salt. I definitely will brand this once more and again.
11/28/2016
oh my goodness! that is 1 succulent stew. I changed three items. I added garlic, cooked the meat in red wine & did not add together celery. side by side time I'll have to double the batch.
02/24/2016
Turned out great, I used twice the carrots and twice the potatoes. Also, I served over a bed of wild rice. The cabbage took longer than stated to fully melt.
09/23/2021
Fantastic! Don't be afraid to utilise more cabbage, carrots, etc., simply add more than broth. It is phenomenal.
10/27/2014
Delicious. I accept never cared for traditional stew, only loved this. I but fabricated a couple of modest changes. I used turnips instead of potatoes since my hubby is diabetic. I think the turnips made it better than potatoes would have. I likewise used organic "better that boullion" for boullion and goop since I was using grass fed organic beef.
12/13/2017
I made this in my crock pot, it was delicious!
05/22/2018
i made information technology and it turned out GREAT.
01/27/2015
Perfect recipe. I was hesitant most the cabbage at commencement but was surprised how well it worked with this stew. I will definitely be making this again.
01/20/2020
Great recipe. I incorporated a few changes but tried to limit them to keep true to the original recipe. I dusted the beef cubes with seasoned flour before browning them to assistance thicken the broth. I substituted brussel sprouts that I quartered instead of shredded cabbage and added mushrooms. Very hearty and delicious. Thanks for sharing.
01/14/2018
Goodness, this stew was astonishing! I added actress vegetables and more than broth.
01/05/2016
Amazing flavor!
12/15/2019
I loved this recipe. I omitted the potatoes because my husband is going depression carb. Wanted to brand information technology more of a soup then a stew and then added extra beef goop, carrots and celery. I threw in a package of beefy onion soup mix to requite information technology extra flavor and sprinkled in some garlic salt. The end result was exactly as I wanted.
12/23/2019
Delicious!!
01/09/2018
Just like grandma used to brand, this is easy and flavorful.
09/29/2016
Added one med rutabaga and a extra carrot
01/03/2016
Wow! This recipe was easy and delicious. A bit time consuming merely definitely worth it to get the full flavour blended and the meat actress tender. I needed to add more beefiness broth to cover my meat and and so a scrap more when I added the potatoes. I also added i clove of garlic and some rosemary. I plan to make this again and add even more than cabbage next time.
05/05/2014
Don't change a thing. I have to double the recipe for my family of 5 considering they fight over the tiny amount of leftovers from just 1 batch ;)
11/23/2012
I fabricated this tonight, it was crawly, my family loved it. I will definitely proceed this recipe and will be making it again.
04/02/2014
I added turnip, parsnip and made a big batch. It turned out great my family'south loved information technology.
11/08/2015
Pretty good stew, although I had to make a few small-scale additions. The stew itself is quite simple, even so I had to add a bit of flour in order to thicken information technology up. I also just added i/2 a can of the tomato paste, and used a small tin of diced tomatoes instead of just the full tin of tomato paste. The terminate result was pretty good! Oh, I as well added a tiny fleck more beef flavour also!
07/06/2016
Very Good!!!!!!
05/26/2016
I added red wine, bay leaves, fresh rosemary and thyme. Take made this for years without the cabbage! Much better with cabbage! Thanks!
12/16/2016
Exactly what I needed while I was ill. Browned the meat, carmalized the onions, scraped the brown bits off the pan then put it all in the crockpot for the day.
01/12/2019
Simply the all-time ive tasted
10/11/2016
Beloved this stew! The only things I inverse, because of personal preferences, were I exchanged celery seed for the chopped celery, added peas and more carrots, cooked it in a crockpot all day, and added a thickener only earlier serving. I doubled the recipe because I know my hubby was going to dear it as well. It's a keeper!
12/18/2017
Followed the recipe exactly. It was great on a cold winter day!
11/29/2016
My husband, who HATES stews, asked if I could make this once more. I made it in our Instapot. Pressed the "meat" option afterwards each add-on and pressure cooked it multiple times. Cook-in-your-mouth tastiness.
08/13/2015
I make information technology only like the recipe but add together a lilliputian extra water. I double it and freeze it. I add the potatoes afterward so they don't plough to mush after I freeze it. I also use new potatoes with the skin on. I've made this several times.
08/15/2013
Oh my goodness, this turned out delicious! I only added extra carrots and followed the recipe.. I made ii pots at once (one for the freezer) and it cost me effectually $x. My kids keep coming in and maxim dinner smells great : ) im going to serve with rice and a sweet cornbread!
03/23/2016
This is the most delicious recipe on here! I've made it a dozen times and never fails.
02/09/2018
I made it as directed. It was easy and succulent. Except I did use three carrots instead of 1, and i.5 lbs babe gold potatoes cubed. I had to add a picayune more than liquid when I added the veggies. I liked that I could get the meat and onions in and cooking and so take my time getting veggies prepped. Meat was tender and flavor was excellent. I was happy with the dish. It was as good or meliorate the side by side 24-hour interval. Cheers for submission!
03/30/2017
Love this recipe! Did not take enough of the beefiness broth and so I added a can of "Aye" Beef and Lentil Soup with a can of water. My husband loved it!
10/12/2018
I made a combination between this recipe and some other one. It was delicious! I took the advice from someone else who altered the recipe and added 1 TBSP of A-one and Worcestershire sauce. From my go to seasonings I added Oregano, Turmeric ,Kosher salt and Creole seasoning to give it a kicking! Results one happy family unit, even my pickiest eater ate it all. A great way to go my children to consume cabbage which I dearest only they do not.
11/04/2018
Information technology is soooo yummy ! I seared the meat, and when the terminal batch was done, I scraped upward the brown $.25 with some of the stock - cooked it depression & slow till the meat was tender - I doubled the potatoes & carrots - left out the celery ( not a fan of the flavor of cooked celery ) I did S & P for each step No slurry needed, the starchy potatoes did the chore
07/12/2015
Delicious! Information technology'due south great over Rice too. I was out of bay foliage and I added a little garlic powder.
